Restore Nature Now: The message from thousands protesting in London

Share

Thousands marched in London this weekend in the biggest Restore Nature March yet, calling on all political parties to take action for Nature’s recovery. This year the peaceful march was unprecedented, with a sense of urgency to take action. With upcoming general election in only one week, this is THE moment to make noise. Now must be the turning point for nature, and polluters must pay for damage they cause to the environment.

As part of stop six of the SAS General Election Road trip, staff in London were joined by SAS Plastic Free Communities, Reps, supporters and Exmouth swimming campaigner Jo Batemen. Armed with ‘Vote for the Ocean’ posters, plus their wetsuits and gas masks, the team marched to demand politicians take water pollution seriously.

With the March split into four blocks, Water, Land, Air, Woodland and Land, and together we called for:

  • A pay rise for nature
  • Making polluters pay
  • More space for nature
  • A right to a healthy environment

80,000 people can’t be wrong. Over 350 organisations and campaign groups collaborated to be heard, showing the sheer scale and interconnectivity of the issues our blue and green spaces face right now. To march at such a crucial time for the future, in the run up to a General Election, is powerful. Now we need to be asking the questions of our political candidates and voting for the ocean on 4th July. We aren’t going away.

Missed the March? You can still Vote for the Ocean

How awesome are the posters? Designed by a Cornish Artist, and are double-sided, so wherever, and however you enjoy the water, you can show your local candidates that protecting our blue spaces needs to be at the top of their agendas.

This is our chance to turn the tide on sewage and plastic pollution into our most treasured spots by 2030.

If you would like one, head here and order your free copy.

Let’s create a wave of support across the UK, demanding the next government sets out and delivers bold and ambitious plans to end pollution into the places we swim, surf and love.
